Description

A mythological—heritage stone. Dimensions: length 2.2 m, width 1.85 m on the top where the stone is wider, height 1.2 m, circumference 6.6 m, volume only 1.5 m3. Red granite. The surface of the stone has heavily eroded and there some small cracks. The location of the stone seems to be the original one. On the E side of the stone there is a rather big jag, where a torn off fragment constituting 1/8 to 1/10 of the original volume of the stone is missing. There are no carvings on the stone.

Narrative

There is a legend that under the stone the chief of the Cours Indulis was buried. The stone lies in the hillfort of the Vēre Hill at the S end of which there are two 3 and 1–1.5 m deep big hollows which used to be called sacrifice hollows in ancient times. Their function is unclear, they might represent parts of the hillfort fortifications rather than sacrifice hollows.
