Description

The Laubere Hollow Stone does not have its own specific name. The stone (2.5 m x 2.2 m x 0.8 – 1.2 m), which has deeply sunk into the ground, has a considerably broken cavity on its surface which was once called a pothole (1.25 m x 0.50 m x 0.18 m). In the centre of the hole there used to be a quadrangular cavity (0.33 m x 0.10 m). In 1932 A. Gusars 1932 heard a legend that sacrifices were made at the stone in ancient times. The characteristic cavity and its pothole allow including the Laubere hollow stone among the pothole stones typical for Vidzeme which were used as sacrifice places until the 19th century. The stone was once located by the Liepiņi homestead which does not longer exist.

Comments
The stone is next to Laubere centre, however, there are no signs about the stone, which is understandable because the surroundings are rather unattractive. During the kolchoz times cattle-shed rows were constructed in the vicinity of the stone most of which are not any more used for the initial function. Between the stone and the nearest row of the cattle-sheds there is a big amelioration ditch. Closer to Laubere centre, about twenty metres from the stone there is a public bathhouse. Next to it construction waste is dumped. It seems that it used to be dumped also closer to the stone, however, now it has overgrown with grass so it is impossible to work there without sinking in up to the knees and deeper. At the moment of inspection the stone had grown into thick and high grass and underbrush.
